Indian Embassy in Indonesia Introduces AI Avatar ‘Dewi’ to Strengthen Public Outreach

Date:

The Indian Embassy in Jakarta has introduced ‘Dewi’, an artificial intelligence (AI) avatar, to improve public outreach and promote India-Indonesia relations. The digital initiative will provide updates on Indian culture, travel, scholarships, business, investment opportunities and consular services.

The embassy unveiled the avatar through a post on X, inviting people to follow its account for regular information and updates.

Introducing Dewi, the embassy described the avatar as a new digital face of its mission in Jakarta.

The initiative aims to make information about India and the bilateral partnership more accessible to Indonesians, members of the Indian diaspora and others interested in India.

Its planned areas of communication include:

  • 🇮🇳 Indian culture and heritage
  • ✈️ Travel and tourism
  • 🎓 Scholarship opportunities
  • 💼 Business and investment
  • 🛂 Consular services and updates

The embassy said the avatar would help bring stories and information about the India-Indonesia partnership closer to its audience.

India’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, also shared the initiative on X during Navaratri and Durga Puja.

He said the AI avatar Dewi was being introduced on the auspicious occasion to guide its followers.

The launch reflects the embassy’s use of digital communication to reach audiences interested in Indian culture, services and bilateral engagement.

According to the Indian mission, Indonesia is home to approximately 1.3 lakh Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and around 15,000 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).

Many members of the community work as professionals, including chartered accountants, teachers and engineers. Regional and pan-Indian associations are also active in Jakarta and other major Indonesian cities.

The embassy’s digital outreach initiative aims to help keep these communities informed while engaging Indonesians interested in visiting, studying, investing or doing business in India.

AI-powered communication tools can offer diplomatic missions another channel to share information with diverse audiences. Dewi’s introduction combines digital outreach with cultural communication and practical updates about travel, education, business and consular services.
